Annual Salute to Freedom at Bretton Woods

This special three day celebration will salute every American soldier from the American Revolution to the present day. Enjoy demonstrations, musical performances and classic family activities! The excitement begins with “The Battle of Wettysburg”, a family friendly, fun-filled water balloon battle, the Firecracker 5K Run and our annual pie eating contest! Don’t forget about our spectacular Wednesday night firework display!* Bonus features include a “Call-to-Arms”, a rubber duck race in the Ammonoosuc River and of course the after party in The Cave!*

Civil War Encampment Re-enactment

Travel back in time to the Civil War as the Vermont Civil War Hemlocks and the 6th New Hampshire Infantry Company set up a replica of a Civil War campsite. Complete with tents, flags, cook fires and other appropriate equipment. Engage in the activities of the Civil War soldiers as you learn about marching, drilling, posting guards, writing letters and cooking meals. Walk through the campsite, talk to the soldiers and learn about the life of a Vermont or New Hampshire soldier.

Battle of Wettysburg

Fight mighty with your troop to stay dry in this Civil War themed water balloon fight. Who will win the battle and rule the Resort grounds…the Blue or the Grey…? The balloon fight will begin promptly at 3:00pm. We ask participants to arrive on the Ammonoosuc lawn to decide teams by 2:45pm.

Dr. Douglas Arion, Director of the Carthage Institute of Astronomy and Professor of Physics and Astronomy, will give a presentation on the intricate and fascinating connections between life on Earth and the history and phenomena of the Universe around us. Learn about the amazing sequence of events that led to the formation of the solar system and the Earth, and how we have come to understand what we are and why we are here. Following the presentation, weather permitting, there will be observing through telescopes.

The annual rubber duck race has become a must see event at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Join us as we release hundreds of ducks into the Ammonoosuc River. The ducks will be dropped in the river promptly at 11:30am.

Now come and join us to experience your own Prohibition “Tea” Party and learn a little more about the history of the 18th Amendment, the Volstead Act, the cost of bootlegging to the US economy and the role The Cave played during the dry times in New England while sipping on one of our favorite turn of the Era beverages.
