What to bring for your summer hiking and/or mountain climbing trip
- Loose-fitting clothes: synthetic wicking materials are best, never cotton or denim jeans
- Lightweight, water-resistant jacket at a minimum, waterproof is best (pants are advisable, if rain is eminent)
- Lightweight synthetic fleece is advisable
- Hiking boots are necessary for all but flat terrain hikes. Sneakers may be acceptable on flat terrain, but no boat shoes or slip-ons (i.e. Crocs, clogs, etc.)
- Bug repellant, sunscreen, hat, bandana, sunglasses
- Extra shirts (2) and socks (1 pair)
- Winter hat and mittens, for above trips above treeline
- Dress in layers - temperatures can vary by 10-20 degrees or more depending on the season and elevation
- Pack more than you think you need - better to carry extra than to not have enough
- Plan for rain, even if there is none in the forecast
- Change your shirt and socks for the descent - dry, clean clothes make a difference in your attitude and comfort level
- Map/Compass (local map)
- Extra Clothing
- Extra Food
- Extra Water
- Illumination (flashlight or headlamp)
- Sun screen/sunglasses
- First Aid Kit
- Fire starters/Matches
- Emergency Shelter (small tarp or space blanket)
- Knife/Leatherman-Repair kit

What to bring for your mountain biking trip
- Loose fitting clothes - synthetic wicking materials are best, denim jeans, khakis are not advised. Plan on getting a little dirty!
- Padded cycling shorts are highly recommended
- Cycling shoes or sneakers - no boat shoes or slip-ons (i.e. Crocs, clogs, etc.)
- Eye protection
- Helmet
- Body armor is recommended for downhill
