Anniversary Celebration

This winter we welcome you to celebrate our 50th Anniversary at Bretton Woods Ski Area! We are fortunate to play a role not only in the ski industry, but in the communities that we have grown up alongside. Welcome back to an amazing winter season and to another year at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire's largest ski area.

Storyteller Sunday Series

Part i: Bretton Woods 50th Anniversary Highlight Reel

We introduce our Storyteller Sunday series with current and prior associates who reflect on Bretton Woods Ski Area turning 50 years old this season.

Part ii: Walter McGrail and 50 Years as an Instructor

For our second installment, we sat down with Walter McGrail, a veteran instructor who has introduced generations of skiers to the sport, right here on our slopes.

Part iii: Bernie Weichsel, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame with the class of 2016

For our third installment, we introduce the one and only, Bernie Weichsel. Bernie was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame with the class of 2016. Dreaming of running away to join the circus and avoid the family’s meatpacking business in New York City, he found skiing when he was 4 years-old, which became his life-long passion. He organized the high school ski club at Brooklyn Tech, directed the first professional freestyle tour, pioneered U.S. ski resorts’ marketing to target international guests, energized consumer ski shows, and worked with countless historical institutions. Over the decades, he has been a mover and shaker with the New England Ski Museum, the International Skiing History Association, and as chairman of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame from 2009 to 2014. A natural-born promoter, tireless networker and savvy organizer, Bernie has left a positive mark on skiing and snowboarding for nearly five decades – and he’s not done yet.

Part iv: Eileen Armstrong, family history rooted in Bretton Woods

For our fourth installment of, we celebrate Women's History Month by introducing one of our own- Events and Activities Manager, Eileen Armstrong. Armstrong has a deeply-rooted family history at Bretton Woods and the Omni Mount Washington Resort, spanning over four decades and three generations, with her own journey starting as a 14 year-old working in at the ski school.

Part v: Chris Ellms sits down with Bretton Woods trail designer, Joe Cushing

Chris Ellms, director of Bretton Woods, sat down with neighbor, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee, ski area pioneer, and creator of Bretton Woods, Joe Cushing, to talk about the early days of Bretton Woods. Over his 35 year career, Cushing's contributions influenced the modern ski resort throughout North America, from Deer Valley in Utah, Copper Mountain and Keystone in Colorado, all the way to several resorts on the east coast, like New Hampshire's largest resort, Bretton Woods. He worked on more than 400 projects with over 150 using most or all of his design influence.
