BRETTON WOODS FIRES UP THE SNOW GUNS AHEAD OF THE 2026-27 SKI SEASON
First snowmaking system test checks equipment, prepares team for winter
BRETTON WOODS, N.H. — Bretton Woods Ski Area fired up its snowmaking system for the first time this season today, testing two trails expected to be part of the mountain’s early-season operations as preparations for the 2026-27 ski season get underway.
Crews tested hydrants, pipes, pumps, compressors, snow guns and nozzles, while also training new team members on startup procedures and working alongside experienced snowmakers.
“This is really about making sure the terrain we expect to open first is ready to go,” said Jace Wirth, General Manager of Bretton Woods Ski Area. “We’re checking the entire system, fixing the little things we find, and making sure the team is comfortable with what needs to be done. Snowmaking is a complicated process, and it’s such an important part of what we do. When the weather gives us the window, we want to be ready.”
Bretton Woods also installed new snowmaking pipe on Upper Express this year as part of continued investment in the mountain’s snowmaking infrastructure.
A second test is expected during the third or fourth weekend of October on the same terrain, giving crews another opportunity to complete final checks before the next snowmaking window.
“The goal is to get everything wrapped up and be ready for the next weather window,” Wirth said.
We’ll announce the opening date when conditions are right.
